Hosting, upgrades and recovery

Running Odoo and the systems around it - backups, disaster recovery, version upgrades and day-to-day operations, with every task on record.

An implementation is the start of a system's life. After go-live it needs hosting, backups, updates, a new Odoo version every year or two, and someone who can put it back if something goes wrong. We look after all of that, on infrastructure you choose: with us through our sister organisation Cloudient, on your own servers, or with a third party.

What the service covers

Hosting
Odoo and its database run in containers on infrastructure sized for the business, with test and training copies alongside the live system when they are needed.
Backups and disaster recovery
The database and the files Odoo keeps are backed up on a schedule, with copies held away from the live system. A recovery plan says how the system is brought back and in what order, and restores are rehearsed so the plan is tried before it is needed.
Version upgrades
Each new Odoo version brings new features and moves fields and modules around. We upgrade with OpenUpgrade, the Odoo Community Association's open source upgrade tooling, and rehearse every upgrade on a copy of the live database first. Your team checks the result on the copy, and the live run happens once the rehearsal is right, with a point to roll back to.
Modules and updates
Community and custom modules are added, updated and tested on a copy before they reach the live system.
Day-to-day operations
Routine tasks - adding a database, renewing certificates, reading logs, applying an update - are carried out through ctrl-exec, our remote execution framework. Each task is authorised, runs over an encrypted and mutually authenticated connection, and is recorded with who ran it and what it returned.

The rest of the estate

Odoo rarely runs alone. The same service extends to the systems around it: the website and the apps on your Odoo, Nextcloud for files and collaboration, email, and telephony. Where it needs infrastructure from the hardware up, that is part of the same service too.

Cloudient provides the hosting, security, email, telecoms and emergency response. One team is responsible for the whole stack, so there is one place to call when something needs attention.

If you host it yourself

Everything we set up is open source and documented, so you or another supplier can run it. We are happy to hand over the backup, recovery and upgrade procedures, train your team on them, or support them on call.
