Project recovery

Getting a stalled or struggling system project moving again - an honest assessment, what can be saved, and a practical way forward.

Projects drift for many reasons: requirements that changed, a supplier
that moved on, a system delivered that does not quite fit how the business
works. The sooner it is spotted, the more options there are, and many
projects can be turned around.

When you are in the middle of it, it is hard to see the whole picture. We bring a fresh view across the business and technical sides, without blame, and work with your team and suppliers on a shared way forward.

How we approach it

  1. Bring everyone with a stake together and agree how we will communicate
  2. Set out what the project is trying to achieve
  3. Establish where it is today
  4. Find the root causes
  5. Take stock of the people, skills and budget available
  6. Agree what changes in scope, features or timescale
  7. Lay out a roadmap and start moving

You can use us for the assessment and workshops alone, or to lead the project from there through design, build, implementation and support.

An example

The South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust had piloted an open source electronic observations tool on two wards, and the move from pilot to live had stalled. We led the recovery: a stakeholder workshop to rebuild a shared view of the goals, a clear roadmap, and direction of the delivery team through to a trust-wide rollout. The platform now supports over 800 staff across 50 wards. Read the SLaM case study →
